Year End Freshgrade Reflection

1. How do you think your year went in grade 6?
I think that that my year in 6th grade went pretty well, made friends with a lot more people, getting to know them better, inviting them over, and work-wise, I think I did pretty well, getting at least fully meeting on most subjects. Also, behaviour-wise, I believe I worked on-task more towards the end of the year. Personally, I thought my best subject was either Math, or Art. I also think I was good at spelling too, getting Exceeding for all my tests and pre-tests. Although, I was fooling around somewhat often during the beginning of the year.
2. What was something that was very memorable?
I think that something that was memorable, was, the Build'N Go, which T thought helped us with cooperation and teamwork, (The second time), and another memorable thing were the space projects. The project that me and Laksh did, we worked hard on it, we cooperated and worked outside of school, talked to each other, and communicated. Finally, another thing I remember, was kayaking, it was fun and tiring, but it took a lot of communicating with my partner, and timing our strokes.
3. Looking back on you reading comprehension throughtout the year, what was one thing you were really proud of (think back to out literature circles or novels that we read together)
Looking back at the novels and literature circles, something I was proud of was, all the summaries, because I think that I managed to get most of the detail in those and did pretty well on the Inferring, Connecting, and Visualizing sheets, getting a decent overall amount of 3/4's, and 4/4's here and there. Although our group was very bad at focusing, often making jokes, or saying something during Touching Spirit Bear lit circles. Out of all 3 sheets, definitely the connect sheet was the hardest, the inferring was decent, and the visualizing was easiest. Something I would like to improve on in L.A. is, having a bit more, "vivid" vocabulary in my writing.
4. What was one thing that you struggled with in terms of reading and that you think you should continue working on?
I think that personally, I am a good reader, but orally reading, I "stumble" in a sense, and I sort of "zone out". But I think that I am a strong mental reader, but I think I should work on oral reading, considering, in my mind, I can easily read harder books like The Hunger Games, or Heroes Of Olympus, but I find it much harder to read out loud.
5. What writing piece were you the most proud of (personal, story, or persuasive). What about it made you proud?
I am probably most proud of my speech on overfishing during global issues, where I think I researched on the topic, and used my time well. I also worked with on it, since we chose the same topic. I thought that I worked hard on it and everything on it was accurate.
6. What was one thing that you think you still need to work on throughtout all of your writing? How do you know you need to work on this.
Something that I think I need to work on, is word choice. Sometimes I can get very repetitive with my word selection, using the same word several times near each other. I know I need to work on it because whenever I read over my own printing and writing, I keep seeing the same word.. So I think that if I improve on it, my writing will have a lot more personality.
7. We have talked a lot about communication skills (How you communicate with your peers and your teachers in small or large groups) What is one thing that you do well in terms of communication and one thing that you think that you should keep working on.
I think that I can speak with my peers very easily, and socialize well. In terms of communication in groups, it's easier to do in smaller groups to cooperate with them and talk, than with a larger group, because a larger group would would be harder to communicate with. Something  that I should be working on working on would probably be interrupting others, because sometimes, whenever I get and idea, I forget someone else is talking, so I interrupt them.
8.  Do you think you do a good job of asking for help when you need it? How do you know you are good at asking for help or not?
I believe that I do a good job of asking for help, and I think so because if ever am stuck on something or a question doesn't make sense, I ask for help and they give it to me. But, whenever my peers don't know either, I get to go to the teacher, or raise my hand. Although, sometimes, I just do it by myself if I'm just slightly confused.
9. In Math, we learned a lot of things this year. Talk about a time when you struggled with something in Math. What was it and how did you get better at it?
One thing that I struggled with, was forgetting small things, that I had to do or something that helps me do the question. For example, things like forgetting to simplify, or not remembering to put a number somewhere. After doing that and forgetting things, I eventually remembered to do the thing I was forgetting.
10. What was one thing you were really proud of in Math this year- something you think you did really well or a challenge you over came?
Something I was really proud of in Math was my tests, I thought I did really well on them, only getting a question wrong because I forgot to do something, (usually), or just not understanding a word problem. Something that I thought I overcame , was, like I said before, that I forgot to do a lot of the small things, whether it be simplifying, or forgetting a number somewhere.
11. We spent a lot of time learning about what Social Emotional Learning is. How do you self-regulate? How do you promote social emotional learning around you? (Think of your morning Zones of Regulation)
I self regulate by taking deep breaths or sitting alone and trying to relax . I also relax by either playing the piano at home, or listening to music or a funny video at home. I can promote social emotional learning by, if I find someone mad or sad who I know, I try to help them calm themselves and breath. I can also tell people to regulate their emotions and such.
12. How did you like project-based learning? What were your strengths? What could you work on in the future
Project based learning is fun, because often we have partners we can work with which is fun, because we can have conversations with each other while working about our project, plan it out, or just cooperate with one another. It's also great because we can make our project, and be satisfied of our project when we're done.
13. You experienced different types of innovative learning within the classroom such as classroom blogs, coding, choice, passion projects, etc. How did this best support your learning? What did you like about it?
The blogs, and other types of innovative learning, was fun, because I had a choice on what to do instead of just lain old learning, and it was really fun to do. It certainly made it more unique and interesting, and was definitely easier to learn, because, it gave some freedom.
14.Every day you never sat in the same spot , you had a different seat to start your morning. How did this benefit your learning? What did you like about it?
Since every day, I had a different place to sit down every single morning, it was unique, it gave me a chance to talk to everyone, and learn about each other, it was also very fun because I could have fun conversations with everyone, have things in common, get to know each other well. It was also very handy for learning, because I could ask my peers for help if I ever needed any.
15. What did you learn about in Aboriginal Education this year?
This year, I learned about the circles and Justice from "Touching Spirit Bear". A fact I learned about the Residential Schools is that for the boys, they had priests, and that girls had nuns for, "teachers". In TSB, I learned about the Justice Circle and what they did as a form of reforming and healing by isolating themselves.

It's been hours since the war, the 2 sides of the war completely obliterated, leaving no survivor alive, except for me... I don't know how long it's been since then, when a warrior clothed in pitch-black clothes and a mask with  crimson red and gold armour completely destroyed both sides in a matter of seconds, leaving a blurry trail of red, gold, and black, riding atop a terrifying skeletal steed as it left behind a trail of flames being lit by it's blazing purple mane of flames. Trying to remember, I remember a giant scythe, at least 8-feet tall, yet he swung it with ease, with a pitch dark blade stained in red, with a crooked, bar of steel for a handle. I try to remember as much as I can, but I fail to as I have a hazy memory. I scan the battlefield for any other survivors, seeing bodies stocked up to the brim with Greek battle armour, with fallen over or destroyed chariots, as long spears, swords, and flags litter the ground when a foggy mist clouds the war ground. Through my clouded vision, I make out a figure riding a horse coming in my direction, fast. As I barely manage to be able to leap out of the way, I grab a blade and a shield off the ground as I turn to see a lone figure standing there, like he wants me to be ready. Without thinking, I charge, he easily manages to dodge out the way, making me fall hard on my knee, even through the pain I lunge at him, but I turn and slash, making a giant gash in his chestplate, as I lunge again, this time striking a gap in his armour. But as I jab, I feel a sharp pain in my shoulder, the place I struck this mysterious person. In that brief moment, I realize that I've only been fighting myself, there is no one there, only me... Alone... As I fall to my knees and cry out...

Spring

What I like about spring is that the bright, warm sunshine is a nice, refreshing change, from the gloomy, rainy, never-snowing winter. There are lots of things to do during the time of bright sunlight, such as going around on a bike, scooter, or skateboard and riding around the area, going down hills on them, or riding around with friends while talking. But you can also walk around, enjoying the view, smelling the fresh air, or playing in playgrounds or fields with other people. You can also go around on a drive with your family, looking at the view, or going to a camp site or lake. There are other things you can do to, such as playing games with a ball, or making up a game. But you don't have to go outside, when it's raining, you can also stay inside to watch videos on Youtube, play games on a phone, computer, or tablet, lay down, relax, and read a long interesting book. When you're inside, you can also play board games with family or friends too or just lay down on the couch with some food, and watch your favourite show or movie. Another hobby I do during spring is drawing. During spring, you can also eat some delicious food, like going out to a amazing restaurant with mouth-watering food, or the warmth of a home-cooked meal, and if you feel like it, go out to a fast food restaurant. Then, to end your day, you lay down on your soft bed, raise your covers, close your eyes, and go to sleep.

Chinese New Year

2/4/2016

I know that the Zodiac is related to the Chinese New Year because every year the animal of the year changes, so every person is a different animal (Unless you`re the same one of course). I also know that in China, at Chinese New Year people get money in packets from people and dress up as dragons and dance to get good luck. I hope to learn about how Chinese New Year was created. Although I`ve never actually been to a real celebration.

Reflections On Term 1 and Term 2

12/14/2015

In term 1 I really enjoyed doing ¨Build N Go¨ during the immunization day because unlike the last time, nobody was sad or bored. I felt it really gave everyone a chance to shine as we built it.  But something that didn´t go well was a science presentation because instead of doing a presentation on the species of fish as a whole, we did random facts on separate species of fish. A good memory was when I drew something and a ton of people complimented me on it. My favourite activity (academic) is math, because I really enjoy it because it´s easy for me and fun too. For term 2 A short-term goal I have is that I want to be more knowledgeable in science and a long-term goal is to get an exceeding mark at least once in science. But a personal short-term and long-term goal is to be nicer to people and be a good grade 7 *cough cough*.

What I Expect From The Prime Minister Of Div.3

11/5/2015

I expect her to be responsible whatever happens in the classroom and be here everyday that she is Prime Minister for. I trust that she makes the classroom environment better and fulfills all of her promises such as listening to everyone`s opinions and hopes before making a decision by herself. I also hope that she  doesn`t fill the classroom with negativity like some Prime Ministers would do. Plus, if any class equipment is lost she will get it back.
